Heritage Weekend

This weekend we honored our heritage. We stayed in our “new” (new to us anyway) camper. We love it! It is so much fun. One kid has to sleep on the floor but hey, they are resilient!

The dog loves the camper! Everyone is contained where she can see the entire family in a single view. And more importantly, her appointed spot is located adjacent to the food preparation area (just in case) which is the complete opposite of the constant, “Nova, get out of the kitchen!” she hears at home.

Saturday evening we went to the Monster Truck Rally at the fair grounds! We arrived early, parked and had dinner in the camper in the parking lot.

The kids love seeing the 8 year old who is running his own kid sized Monster Truck.

After the show we hung out at the camper, got in our PJ’s and watched all the other white trash monster truck fans fight over who gets to leave the parking lot first. It was like the show after the show. The late show of sorts. There were two guys right off our tailgate actually threatening each other with bodily harm and vehicular damage. One direct quote was, ” I will kick your ass and then kick in your f*@kn’ windshield so you can see where you’re going, a&&h*le!”

It doesn’t get any better than that!! It was like we had ringside seats!! In our pajamas!!! So we just stayed put and drifted off to slumber land in our camper at the fair grounds.

The next morning, we cruised to the Pilot truck stop. Notice Dad’s fresh hot coffee.  We had breakfast in the camper of hash browns, scrambled eggs and corned beef. Plus we got to sniff up some diesel fumes from the trucks cuisin’ by; I think we were all starting to jones a little after being away from the Monster Truck exhaust for 8 hours.

Awwwwweee… look at those happy little redneck in training faces!

Too bad it is the wrong time of year for a swap meet. That would have rounded out the weekend nicely. Or a gun show perhaps. But we did hit the army surplus store (thumbs up). That counts as swap meet and gun show combined.

Love it. Ours was a 71′ motor home. No money, so parked in parking lots. Springfield had a great army surplus store. Wonder if they still have that, that would be fun!!! My kids thought we took cool vacations and that’s all that counts!!!
